Don't get in my way
and don't evade my space
I'll put you in your place
I'll only tell you once
I'll never tell you twice
and this is me being nice

Midday. A perfect time for grazing, the spring sun was never too hot nor the breeze that drifted past too cold. The scene was untainted, wild flowers were blooming up through the emerald green grass while the bird sung full song in the trees that were randomly scattered over the meadow. Two horses grazed under one of the trees, one alot smaller than the other. The smaller one, looked eagerly up at his mother. "Eblis is never coming back is he? Pitiful." The colt sneered, his head was held high, and his smirking expression never faltered as the mare looked down with a furious glare. "He'd never leave," She hissed back, her divine voice heated with anger. "And when he comes back you be sure to hide that cocky smirk of yours, or he might just pound it from your face."

The dark bay colt shook his black mane, it slapped against his neck. "I'm off." He retorted then began walking away. "Gabbar! Get back here now! I don't need you disappearing too." She called, her bronze hide rippled as she jogged up to the colt. The colt looked up at her with bright amber eyes, they were reflected with glaring fiery ones. "Seeya, Ayasha." He laughed and dodged around to gallop off. Ayasha thought of following him, then neighed furiously and stamped the ground. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of going after him. Let him get hurt and hobble back to her like usual.

M I S A K I

The sun danced high in the perfect, cloudless, blue sky, sending it's warm rays down to the earth, waking the sleeping souls that lay under the cold surface of the earth. Souls that would soon be free of their underground prison to again see the light of day. The world was a happy place in the spring.... Or at least for many. For a young bay mare, however, it was a fearful place....

A blood bay mare circled a single oak tree, going round and round, stopping, turning, then going the other direction. Beneath her hooves was a well worn path that went 'round...and 'round... and 'round... the tree. Obviously, the mare had been circling for quite a while. Her usually calm brown eyes were wide, panic-stricken, and filled with fear and unimaginable grief. Her dark nostrils flared with every step, and her entire-now terribly skinny-body trembled.

Why? The mare whispered over and over. Why me? Why always me? Haven't the Gods tortured me enough already?! Misaki halted, and a single tear escaped one of her wide, fearful eyes.

A cool breeze blew against Misaki's skin, causing her to shiver and cough. The once strong blood bay mare had grown weak and unhealthy over the winter, but the event of her adopted son's disappearance had dealt the harshest blow. Bikr-the colt that Misaki had stolen a few hours after his birth from his mother, Ayasha, who was Misaki's worst enemy-had disappeared during a blizzard. The bay mare couldn't find him afterwords, and then decided he must have died. The mare was distraught, and fell into deep depression.

Swaying slightly on her thin legs, the mare raised her head and narrowed her bleary eyes, trying to focus on the field that lay a few hundred feet away. The figure of a galloping yearling came into view, and her ears pricked. As the horse came nearer, Misaki recognized the color and stature. She gasped and staggered back. Bikr?! At once, her eyes flashed to the figure's face and searched for those bright blue eyes.... And was promptly greeted by amber ones.

The mare bit her lip and looked away, fiercely blinking away tears. Dammit Misaki, you idiot! Bikr's dead! That couldn't have been him! So stop wallowing in self pity! Misaki tried to tell herself, but none of the grief or pain left. Shaking her head, she began to walk slowly to the field, stubbornly looking away from the colt.

Cross me once and you'll see
it's like a match to gasoline
gasoline..

Ayasha watched as Gabbar departed, narrowing her eyes as he galloped past another horse with no notice that she was there. Stupid colt, she could have been rabid for all he knew and then she would have a diseased son on her hands. She'd kill him, most likely. She would wait around and see ifhe got better, minding to keep well away, but in the end she would never have him suffer. Ayasha was cruel, but she wasn't that cruel. She didn't torture for fun.

Her eyes strayed from Gabbar's tiny figure to land on the mare, who was now walking this way. Something about her nudged Ayasha in the back of her mind, and the bronze mare frowned in confusion. She was often stumped like this, and not recognizing the mare infuriated her, but she stayed silent and watched.

Amber pools stared dangerously toward the horse as her figure grew and grew, and finally Ayasha realized. And almost died in the process. "Misaki..?" Her harsh voice murmured quietly, her ears automatically flattening to her skull. It was a reflex reaction. The last time Ayasha had come in contact with the mare was when she stole Aya's son, Bikr. Well, stole wasn't really the word. Bikr had willingly left after hearing about the anglo-arab's black past. Misaki's actions were only made out of grief, and revenge for the little companion Ayasha had killed.

But Ayasha would always see it as stolen. Even now, the anger from Misaki's success made her blood boil. She gritted her teeth, obviously Misaki wasn't going to do any harm now. She looked like she was starved in the middle of winter, even those kind of horses had recovered already. Misaki obviously hadn't.

Ayasha stepped forward quietly, automatically slipping into stalking mode, something she learned from the War. Her hushed footfalls were silent further because of the lush grass, and she stopped a few faces from the manky Misaki. "You look like a ragged mule who needs to be put out of your misery, Misaki. I'm disappointed in you, my reckless son would put up a better fight." Ayasha sneered, baring her teeth with flashing amber eyes. She cackled and half reared, landing with a hard thud. She was well muscled now that the winter was over, and Gabbar didn't tire her out so much anymore. She was back.

Cause I'm highly flammable
a caged up animal
I will go off on you
you better take it back
I'm about to snap
I will go off on you

The bay mare halted when she reached the edge of the forest, her mind clearly in some other world. The scent of the mare who caused the entire mess that was her past wafted into her nostrils. Still distracted, Misaki assumed that the scent was triggered by the old memories that drifted through her tortured mind. As it got stronger and stronger, Misaki's ears flicked back, and she slowly raised her eyes...Right into the cold glaring gaze of Ayasha herself.

You look like a ragged mule who needs to be put out of your misery, Misaki. I'm disappointed in you, my reckless son would put up a better fight. The sight of the bronze hued mare struck a mix of fear and anger into Misaki's heart, and some of the fiery temper that had once burned within the mare returned.Greetings, Ayasha. The bay mare replied bitterly with her dry and cracked voice, the later word spoken with heavy scorn.

As her old enemy cackled and reared, Misaki leaped back a few steps in an attempt to escape the flying hooves, stumbling a little. Rather ungracefully regaining her balance, the mare looked Ayasha in the eye, her black ears pinned flat against her skull. Your son? Is that who galloped past me so rudely without so much as a word? Hmph. No wonder he looked so much like Bikr.... Misaki's voice faded, and her eyes lowered. Oh Bikr... Why did you leave me during that storm? The mare mentally lamented, looking up at the perfect blue sky with mournful eyes.

Misaki! Quit losing concentration! Stay focused, you idiot! Misaki reprimanded herself, breaking from her mournful trance with widened eyes and whipped her head back down. Ragged mule? You would too, if you've been through everything I have, Ayasha. Don't insult someone when you have no idea what has happened to them. Got it, enemy? The mare spat, glaring daggers at Ayasha.

Greetings, Ayasha. Misaki's tone was enough make Ayasha smirk, so when the ragged mare skittered back and almost lost her complete footing, Ayasha couldn't help but snort. Your son? Is that who galloped past me so rudely without so much as a word? Hmph. No wonder he looked so much like Bikr.... Ayasha watched as Misaki looked down, and she faintly wondered what happened to Bikr. Then she focused of Misaki's words.

"Hah!" Ayasha laughed, but it was false. 'I'm glad Gabbar had the brains to not say anything to you, he wouldn't down grade himself and acknowledge someone who looked as lowly as you. That's where he follows the Purist path well. Scum like you don't have the right to live." She sneered and back up a step, as if standing too close would poison her.

Though Misaki's face as she gazed at the sky made Ayasha falter a little, the mare really had gone crazy. She wasn't much like the mare Ayasha knew as a filly. Ragged mule? You would too, if you've been through everything I have, Ayasha. Don't insult someone when you have no idea what has happened to them. Got it, enemy? Ah, there was some of the old Misaki. Much better.

But seriously, what could have happened to Misaki that was any worse than the terror she had already been through? "I can insult whomever I please, mule, you have now control over me." Ayasha shot back, narrowing her cat like eyes. Parts of her seemed feline also, the way she moved and the way her fury whipped out like lions claws. Even now, her tail lashed her sides angrily, her muscles bunching as if she was about to pounce into battle at any moment.

"So what have you turned my son into, hmm? Another manky thing like you? I would like to see how he enjoys a life with rules, he'll never fully taste freedom. After you abducted him with your foolish lies." Ayasha hissed, tightening her glare further. Misaki's look was harsh aswell, but Aya could almost laugh in mockery at it. The only reason she wasn't fighting now is because Misaki didn't really stand a chance. And what's the fun in battle when your opponent could barely stand?

.misaki.

Have to fight, 'cause I know in the end it's worthwhile
That the pain that I feel slowly fades away
It will be alright...

The blood bay snorted and rolled her eyes at Ayasha's response. Yeah, yeah... Whatever. I don't really care what your opinion of me is, Ayasha. Misaki scathingly replied, turning away, her previous fire suddenly drained. I might be 'scum' to you and your disgusting faction, but unless you're trying to kill me, that doesn't really matter. said the mare, a trace of a snarl in her voice. Misaki backed away a step, her ears twisted back slightly.

I can insult whomever I please, mule, you have no control over me!

Snorting, Misaki shot back Nor do you have control over me. I'm no longer the hot-tempered filly you once knew, Ayasha. I've since learned to ignore childish insults, so you might want to figure out a different way to get me riled up. Glancing down for a moment, a slight grin lit her face. And in actuality, mules are very intelligent and stubborn. Which I take as a compliment! The mare laughed, a slight crazed look flashing in her eyes for a moment before disappearing.

The skinny bay turned to leave, and had taken one step away from her enemy, when the mare's voice wafted into Misaki's ears once more. So what have you turned my son into, hmm? Another manky thing like you? I would like to see how he enjoys a life with rules, he'll never fully taste freedom. After you abducted him with your foolish lies. The mare froze, her eyes wide, then slowly faced Ayasha again, her right front leg twitching slightly. 'Your' son has not been 'turned into' anything. He has grown to be who he is, nothing other than that. She said slowly, in a carefully controlled voice. And as to a life with rules, I should think Purists lead lives with more of them than Pacifists, right? And, Ayasha, WHAT lies? Every word I said back then was the truth. You DID kill my brother. He may not have been my brother by blood, but we were as close as any other blood siblings are. Misaki snapped, fury racing through her veins once again, her upper lip curled in anger. At that moment, the young mare wasn't the beaten, broken, dirty little horse that had been standing there the minute before. And, yet another thing. Bikr came with me of his own will. I did not force him. He chose his own life, I just helped him choose the right path. She snarled, her black-tipped ears flattened against her skull.

Her tangled black tail whipped her sides harshly as she relived the scene of Aang's death. Then she froze. Aang...? The mare's fury eased away slowly, and her gaze dropped from Ayasha, instead staring with unfocused eyes at the ground. Reaching into the back of her mind, Misaki grabbed frantically at the strands of fading memories. No. She thought, horrified as the strands drifted far out of her reach. No. Her breath quickened as fear crept in. It can't be. Misaki reached as far as she possibly could, but everything was out of reach. Then the mare whispered in a terrible terror-filled voice-

I've forgotten.....My own brother's image?!

The bronze mare's lip curled with hate as Misaki fired back her own debates. She fought to stay in control, fought to keep her fiery feline within her skin. Misaki always knew how to grind her gears. Even so, Ayasha knew the same about the other mare. And in actuality, mules are very intelligent and stubborn. Which I take as a compliment! This made her cackle with laughter, her sharp incisors flashing in the sunlight. Her back rippled with rythmn, and she glared back at Misaki.

"Your more screwed up than I thought you were, Misaki. Time has definitely left it's mark!" She spat, watching Misaki turn to walk away. But she knew her words about the colt would stop her. Her face was grim when Misaki turned back, because deep down inside she was dying to know that he was okay. That Bikr lived and breathed and was well, no matter how he had turned out.

'Your son' has not been 'turned into' anything. He has grown to be who he is, nothing other than that. Ayasha didn't quite mind the rest of Misaki's words. The mare was only trying to defend herself in this pathetic way, thinking that maybe she had a chance to fight somehow. Knowing that Ayasha would put up a great fight if it came to that right now. It was the later knowledge that made the copper beauty wince, her eyes narrowed, fire flickering dangerously within their depths. He chose his own life, I just helped him choose the right path.

"The right path?! HAH! Maybe the right path for you, but you can have the satisfaction of knowing that you took away the best opportunity he had. He was the heir, he was to follow in his fathers footsteps. You just made his way to the top so much harder, taking him away from someone with high reputation and putting him in place with the low ranks. He will grow up to despise you, Misaki, be sure of that."

Ayasha stopped her outburst, waiting for a snarly reply but instead saw Misaki's eyes unfocus and watch something that was apart from this world. Her face looked blank, but shocked, Ayasha felt the need to nudge her. She didn't like this. This horse with no bite. Nothing for Ayasha to hurt. When Misaki looked as beaten as this, Aya didn't know how to hurt her further. She couldn't be that cruel. Finally, Misaki spoke, Aya strained to hear. I've forgotten.....My own brother's image?!

Image? Ayasha blinked, then a deep satisfaction made her smirk. "So you can't even remember him, Misaki. How interesting. After all these years of moping around over his death. All that time of planning revenge and you can't even remember what he looks like. I hope it kills you to know even I remember. I remember his painful cry dying to a gurgle, I remember his lifeless body." She sneered, ears flattened against her skull. She reached her head forward suddenly, putting her lips to Misaki's ear. Her voice slid out smooth and cold.

"I even remember the taste of his blood."
