[[phew glad I check Hoofbeats every few days xDD]]
All seemed silent to the grey stag. He had done his duties, checking the boundaries for new scents, toured through his home to make sure all was as it should be. Nothing new had come up. The herd was quiet, either not interested in making a nuisance of themselves or just feeling drained from the summer heat. The Palm Isles had it best, though. With the beach to come to cool down in frequently, it was hard to suffer with the tireness most horses dealt with.
Though right now, even the leader felt the lethargy of the simmering heat. He didn't feel like cantering through the sands, he couldn't find the energy to. Even as he walked forth to the edge of the water, the icy cool liquid splashing onto his fetlocks didn't entice him. He lowered his large nostrils to the water, salty water lapped in his nose and he pulled he head out sharply to blow it out. The water dried quickly on his chin, and the salt left a dry feeling on his lips. He lowered his head again to rub it on his knee, the tip of his dagger balanced on the wet sand as he sunk further into it.
The water was quite calm, the white caps onmly making a lulling hush that didn't help the stallions lazy state. His hard, grey eyes flickered closed and a sigh escaped his lips. He relaxed now while the salty water still lapped against his hooves, nothing could be more peaceful.

Dee walked quietly, almost totally silently, down the white sanded beach, her little hooves dragging behind her in exhaustion. She did not hear the waves, nor did she feel the brightness of the clear blue shy. She felt only a dull empty hole in her heart.
It had been nearly four months since she had lost her foal to death. She had no idea what had become of him, but she was sure that death had had it's prize by now. Her poor little Amir. Amir Aureliano, Golden Prince. A tear rolled down her cheek, trickling down a once bright coat, glimmering in the hot sun.
It was unusual for one to see the once bright and flashy mare in such low spirits. Her back and crest burned, the skin flaking away in places to leave the pale pink skin exposed, and her mane and tail were no longer long and graceful. Mats and tangles filled them, and her white markings were stained brown. But Dee had not been paying attention to any of those problems.
He had run away. He had made his own choice, it was what he had wanted. He had not wanted to be an evil demon like his father, nor had he any plans on being his mother's mistake. He had simply run away from his problems, searching for a solution he never would have found.
Shaking her head, Dee glanced around her through clouded brown eyes, not noticing the tall stallion who stood not too far out in the waves, enjoying the coolness of the water.
Stopping, she lowered her head and snuffled half-heartedly at the sandy ground, closing her eyes, trying to dry the tears that had not yet stopped. She had let go of it all, forgotten everything. Now, the only home she knew was in the shade of the palm trees, solitary confinement.
Oh, God. I can't go on like this...
Her voice was raspy, and on who had previously known the young mare would have easily mistaken her for one much older. Her emotions tumbled out as she stood in the middle of the beach, head down, eyes closed.

Salt filled his nostrils, the sounds of the waves crashing filled his ears. Darkness filled his mind as he saw a tinted red from the sun piercing through his blood filled lids. He didn't hear the mare walking behind him, and it only as a higher wave flicked up and wet his face, did he open his steely eyes. He looked around, yawning lazily and nodding his head. Then his eyes alighted on a ragged looking mare. Her chestnut coat was dull, even in this healthy summer air. He turned around ad walked slowly out of the waves, she wasn't making quick progress and he would easily catch up to her.
The mare had stopped, and Titanium forwned as he got closer. She was so familiar, but he was behind and couldn't see her properly. Oh, God. I can't go on like this... Her voice came to his audits and recognition alighted his thoughts. Jump Lah Dee Dah!! He picked up his pace and made his way around her, half trotting as he came up along side her.
"Dee... you are back." Titanium's rumbling voice nickered kindly. He touched her shoulder with his nose, softly nibbling before pulling sharply away. Her blistered back shocked him, he had never seen sunburn before. He took a closer look at her tear streaked face, and grunted under his breath. "Oh Dee..." He murmured, putting his nose under her chin to lift her head up. "You were such a beautiful, vibrant horse. What is making you so ill?"

Beneath the shade of a broad, healthy tree, a mare rested, her breath coming steady, her eyelashes fluttering as if threatening to close around her bright bronze orbs. She rest just off of the shore, although the crashing waves were still easily heard, brought with the briskness of the breeze.
Before long, the sun had taken over her shaded spot, the grey dappled mare became uncomfortably warm. Giving a slight sigh, she moved on at a slow walk, picking her pace up more and more as she continued down the path. A salty, sea like smell reached her nostrils, getting stronger, but it was mixed with another scent, one she held much more dearly. That was the smell of Titanium.
It had been a little while since she'd been with her mate. She missed him dearly, but with the major stress of recent events, it was hard to focus on anything else. Despite the fact that things had calmed down some, the worry of her daughter Layla never really escaped her. She had been injured so badly, it was difficult to believe that she would ever heal. Sometimes she still found herself thinking the worst.
Picking up her hooves more, she moved at a quickened pace, before stretching out into a loping canter. Slowing down, she rounded the corner to find two horses: Titanium, and the other she was pretty sure was Dee, a mare that had joined their herd.
A soft whinny escaped her lips, tossing her head as she got closer to the two, her eyes soft and bright.

The little mare didn't so much as look up as the deep voice approached from beside her. She knew who it was, she didn't need to look, so why waste energy moving? The tall stallion grazed his muzzle along her back, and Dee flinched in pain, trying not to make it look as if she didn't want his company. As little as she showed it, she felt slightly more able around him.
Oh Dee... You were such a beautiful, vibrant horse. What is making you so ill?
Titanium nuzzled her chin, and slowly tilted her head up so that she was facing him. Her eyes flitted open, and she slowly turned her head around, her expression sorrowful and empty. She opened her mouth slowly, taking a long breath before speaking one lonely word, the harshness and the coolness in her voice startling even herself.
Amir.
She hoped she wouldn't have to say anymore. She hoped that he would understand. Not only did it rasp her throat irritantly, but she was shocked that she might snap at Titanium if she couldn't control her emotions.
The soft thud of lighter hoof beats broke the stillness after her word, and Dee's ears twitched backwards at the sound of a soft whinny of welcome.
Sighing Dee closed her eyes, leaning against Titanium's strong shoulder as she rested, her tired legs bracing out on either side of her frail bodice.

[[sorry two times i've tired to post on this, got half way through the post and the comp had a hissy and deleted it so its been awhile before i could be bothered to reply]]
Amir. Was the hard, cold reply. Titanium's steel gaze waited for anything more, any other words, but she seemed unable to talk. Like she was holding it in. He remembered the colt. Amir had chosen he own way, too young to consider the pain it would give his mother or the consequences the future would bring. He wondered where the foal was now, and blinked slowly at her as if her one word had been tossed aside.
"You need to move on, Dee. He chose his own way." He said quietly, his face grave but his voice a softer baritone. His stone ears turned to pick up the smooth three beat and a sweet scent prickled on his nose. Summerstorm. Of course.
She came around the corner and he raised his head and whinnied to her. But it wasn't as welcoming as it would have been, had Dee not had been here. Now he had more important matters to attend to than his dear beloved. Dee needed caring for, she was his mare, she was his priority. "It's ok, Dee, things will get better."
[[hey is Amir still alive?]]

@Silver: Yah, but barely, poor dude. I didn't like him being so inactive while Mary's away, so I made a post in the Hangout where he is only a few days old, :P.
You need to move on, Dee. He chose his own way.
Dee looked up at him slowly, blinking after he did, sadly. His words hurt her, not because of him, but because she knew that he was right. He had decided on his own, and nothing that anyone else had done would have ever affected his decisions at the time. If he had been forced to stay, his life would have been long, but without a meaning, born to serve his father, no doubt.
She said nothing for the few moments that followed, simply at a lack for words. She knew that she hadn't been taking care of herself as much as she should be, and she needed to change that before it had consequences.
It's ok, Dee, things will get better.
In time, she finished the sentence the way she felt it should be phrased, tilting an ear halfheartedly as Titanium whinnied his response to Summer. It warmed her that he was still beside her, even when he could have willingly gone over to greet his mate. That gave her the boost she needed to speak up, and though still quiet and raspy, it had a life that hadn't been there earlier.
Thank you, Titanium. I'm being such a baby, I need to grow up.
She said, trying to play a smile on her cracked lips, even though it pained her.

t's ok, Dee, things will get better.
Titanium's voice came so very familiar to her. Her heart, mind, body reacted to it in a calming way, feeling very safe once again in his presence. Summer tried her best to stop focusing on him, and turn her attention to Dee.
It was heartbreaking. Summer hadn't known Dee well, but the once bright and happy mare was now sad and detatched. With good reason... Summer thought, her eyes glancing at her back which was now patchy with flaky skin that looked horribly uncomfortable.
Thanks you, Titanium. I'm being such a baby, I need to grow up.
The mare's words came to Summer's auds easily, and she gave the mare a sympathetic glance.
"Dee... is there anything I can do for you? Anything at all?"
The mare knew that her words were so little, but she was having trouble coming up with what to say to her. All she knew is that if she could help her in some way, then she would do it.

[[titanium could go fetch him?]]
Thank you, Titanium. I'm being such a baby, I need to grow up. Titanium heard her raspy voice that was barely audible, he could see it was painful for her. Titanium was a stallion, he didn't have the natural born instincts that a mare did. He would father his son the best he could, he'd protect his family with his life, but the bond between mare and foal he would never understand. If his offspring chose to leave, so be it. It was their mistake and they would pay the price. Mares... mothers on the other hand, would be completely different.
Dee... is there anything I can do for you? Anything at all? Atleast Summer understood the pain. She had come close to losing her daughter too many times already. The lead stallion winced, remembering most of those times were causes of his fight burst of dangerous dark anger. Something not many mares would forgive, they would deem him to dangerous for their foals. Only Summer braved his fury, and only Summer would be so forgiving, so understanding. She knew of his past, and it gave them a bond so much stronger for it.
"Dee, you have a right to feel this way..." Titanium trailed off. He was uncomfortable. For one, he wasn't good at mare loses baby kind of thing, and two, it was her going out at dangerous times and being - he felt slightly betrayed - bred by some stallion. Nium had not known the full story, and he didn't want to. "If you really want to, I can try and find him. I could try and get him to come back for you." He suggested softly, trying to keep whtever other emotions he had undetected.

(Sorry I took so long, I tried to reply today at school but couldn't find the time lol) Lifting her head, she attempted for the second time to put a brighter expression on her face, twisting the very tips of her lips upwards awkwardly. It pained her at the fact that such an expression should be so hard to accomplish, when just a few months ago it was a 24-7 deal with the bright little mare.
Dee... is there anything I can do for you? Anything at all?
Turning to face Summer, her eyes brightened somewhat. She hated this feeling, the feeling that she needed help, and she really wanted to get through this on her own. To snap out of the black hold that was threatening to eat her.
No thanks Summer. I don't really think that anything is going to do me much good at the moment. At least, nothing that I don't have to pull through and accomplish myself.
On the plus side, and Dee was sure it had been the only plus with this traumatizing experience, she felt that she had learned many things that she wouldn't have just over a year ago, when she had felt much less mature and clueless.
Dee, you have a right to feel this way...
She shook her head sadly, somewhat in agreement, though deep down she knew that the only escape she had from a miserable end to her life was to move on, to start all over. To forget about Amir and Acclimation.
If you really want to, I can try and find him. I could try and get him to come back for you.
Truthfully, that was the last thing that Dee had been hoping for anyone to say to her. She knew that she had already had to face the horrible truth; that he had either died from lack of proper nutrition, that he had managed to find another source of milk, or worse yet, had found a twisted way to end his life on his own.
Shaking her head, she closed her eyes in deep thought, tears threatening to trickle out at any moment. Using all her strength, she held them in, waiting a few moments before taking a deep breath, looking back up at Titanium bravely.
I don't know how in the world you would be able to find him, but it would really mean a lot to me, just to know that he is still alive.
(Sure, I need something to eat up some time anyways to keep him active. :P)

**Sooo sorry it took my so long!!!! I've been really busy lately**
Dee, you have a right to feel this way... If you really want to, I can try and find him. I could try and get him to come back for you.[/i]
I watched as the mare shook her head at Titanium's proposition, closing her eyes, tears threatening to spill over. I knew what she was thinking, as the same thing corsed through my mind. Truth was, he was already dead, or by some miracle, found some way to survive. I prayed for the second one.
I don't know how in the world you would be able to find him, but it would really mean a lot to me, just to know that he is still alive.
I nodded softly, my eyes very sympathetic and soft as their deep pools gazed at the mare. Thinking about what this mare had been through made my heart ache for her. No one should have to go through this.
"We will do whatever we can, Dee."
My voice was very simple and soft, genuinely meaning what I said.

don't know how in the world you would be able to find him, but it would really mean a lot to me, just to know that he is still alive. Titanium nodded solemnly, his hard eyes wavering on the mare. She hated to see him so upset, but she had brought it upon herself. He did feel sympathy, we wasn't all a horrible cold hearted creature, he was just... Titanium. He accepted when things happened, and thought he beat himself up over the pain he caused his daughter, over and over, it happened. He had no sympathy for himself, just hate. He gave Dee more than what he'd give himself, but she deserved more aswell.
"Do you know where I should start looking?" He asked her, hearing Summer's input, but not registering it. All that flowed through his mind right now was what he had to do, what plans he must make. He wondered how long he'd stay away from the herd for, how long it'd take to find the colt, or even get to where he was going. He figured a days traveling, a days searching, and if no luck, come back and check on the herd. But if he picked something up, well, he'd stay away for longer. The longer he left any tracks, the harder it'd be to follow anything.
"I know you'll look after the herd while I'm gone, and if you need anything, send Enam to find me. He could use this little test." Nium said slowly, looking at Summer. He'd like the colt to come, but staying behind would give him experience in being a leader. Summer would be checking boundaries and the such, Enam could learn about that.

She was conscious of them speaking to her, gentle and caring, but deep down she knew that it was her fault in the first place, and she should be wasting Summer's and Titanium's time with her sulking. Titanium had offered to help though, and if he honestly wanted to help her, even after all she had put him through, than Dee would accept that greatfully. After she had a hold of herself, she lifted her gaze to meet theirs.
I wouldn't know, he just ran away, and I don't know where he would have gone. Though he probably wouldn't have made it very far out of the Pad.
She said, her voice starting to return to her dried lips as she thought about it being possible that her colt was still alive. Perhaps someone had found him and had taken him in; perhaps not. Perhaps this whole search would be wasted time for them. But now there was a glimmer of hope in the young mare's heart, and for the first time in months, her eyes held that sparkle that a mare her age should have.
We should look there.
She said suddenly, lifting her head, though even though she wanted to do so, she was weak and was able to hold it only long enough to meet Titanium's gaze. Her voice held determination and hope, but she warned herself not to get worked up over nothing, just in case they couldn't find him.
